Physician-Assisted Dying
Physician-assisted dying involves a prescriber writing a lethal dose of a prescription with the patient's consent. This topic is highly controversial because the healthcare provider, whether it be the physician or the pharmacist, is enabling this person to commit suicide rather than discouraging them.
The practice of physician-assisted dying is currently illegal in Canada and some parts of the United States. However, people are becoming a lot more aware of the subject and are starting to lobby the government to make physician-assisted dying legal. For more information about the "fight for the right to die", I would recommend the following article published by the CBC:

Several recent journal articles have also been published on the subject. I would recommend taking a look at Prokopetz and Lehmann (2012) published in the NEJM as well as a recent editorial by Flegel (2012) published in the CMAJ.
